The original creators of the famous ice cream brand Ben & Jerry's has announced how corporate owner Unilever stopped the launch of an innovative pro-Palestinian ice cream flavor.

Ben Cohen, who co-founded the business with Jerry Greenfield, announced how he will personally create this new flavor as part of a personal collection showcasing issues the company has been prevented from addressing publicly.

Ongoing Conflict Involving Creators versus Corporate Owner

This latest announcement deepens the continuing conflict between the internationally recognized ice cream maker and its corporate parent, the British packaged goods corporation which acquired the ice cream brand for over two decades.

Both founders have asserted how Unilever and its ice cream arm Magnum unlawfully blocked their company from "fulfilling its ethical commitments".

The Fruit Sorbet as an Emblem of Support

The entrepreneur stated via social media that he's developing an innovative watermelon-flavored frozen dessert, asking for consumer ideas regarding naming options plus additional components.

“I'm doing what they were prevented from doing,” the founder declared from his kitchen. “I'm making a watermelon-based frozen dessert that calls for permanent peace in Palestine while demanding addressing the harm that occurred in the region.”

This particular fruit has emerged as an emblem of solidarity with Palestinians due to its colors, which mirror those of the Palestinian flag – red, green, black and white.

Historical Social Engagement plus Current Developments

Several years ago, Ben & Jerry's ceased sales of its products in territories under Israeli control, resulting in Unilever selling the Israeli operation over to a local licensee, thus allowing ongoing distribution within the occupied West Bank.

The new product line is being developed under Mr. Cohen's personal brand, the socially conscious ice cream brand which was first created several years back for endorsing ex- political contender Senator Sanders with the flavor "Bernie's Back".

Management Changes plus Future Plans

Mr. Cohen stated that he plans to develop additional ice cream flavors that address issues that the company was silenced from speaking about openly by Unilever.

The announcement comes after co-founder Jerry Greenfield stepped down from Ben & Jerry's in September, after decades of involvement, citing concerns regarding how its independence had been undermined after Unilever's decision to restrict their advocacy work.

At that time, Mr. Cohen stated that "Jerry has strong compassion and this conflict with our parent company was deeply distressing him."

“My conscience leads me to keep working inside the company to fight for corporate autonomy ensuring that the company can fulfill the social mission, the values which established its foundation and has maintained for over 40 years," he told media outlets.
