A renowned South African radio and club DJ has been murdered in the nation's economic hub Johannesburg, causing national outrage across a country grappling with rampant crime.
Warrick Stock, widely recognized as DJ Warras, was shot and killed in the city centre on Tuesday afternoon.
Officials stated the 40-year-old entertainer was confronted by three individuals, with one began shooting at him before running away.
The purpose of the shooting remains unclear and no one has been arrested have been made, police said.
Details of the Attack
Police indicated that Stock was targeted as he was leaving a location close to the Carlton Centre.
He had devoted time at the site managing the installation of security systems, which had been controversially occupied by unknown people, it was reported.
"Authorities believe the deceased was approached by three unidentified men after he parked his car, and they began shooting at him before running from the location on foot," authorities confirmed.
Surveillance tape reportedly captured a suspect with dreadlocked hair and dressed in what resembled a guard's attire opening fire on Stock before fleeing.
The DJ attempted to flee after he was hit but fell down a short distance away.
Police added that Stock had an unused firearm and no items were stolen during the incident.
Crucial forensic evidence, like spent shells, were found at the location.

"Our information indicates they walked a long distance after the shooting, and police have been tracking them to establish their destination," stated a police chief.
