Norris Edges Out Oscar Piastri in Brazilian Practice Session
Lando Norris has outperformed his teammate at all of the previous five race weekends.
Lando Norris just pipped team-mate and title rival the Australian for the quickest lap in the dying seconds of practice at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
Norris, who grabbed the points lead from Piastri by one point after winning in the Mexican Grand Prix two weeks ago, topped the Melbourne-born driver by a mere 0.023s.
Before then, Oscar Piastri had been the fastest McLaren driver during the running before sprint qualifying due at the evening session.
The Red Bull star, the other racer in the points battle, sitting 36 points Norris, ended up in P17 as his Red Bull team opted for a unique setup.
His teammate the Japanese driver was the sole competitor to have an incident, albeit lightly, when he rotated at Turn Four soon after starting.
Tsunoda lost control over the curbs on exit before sliding over the run-off area, and was lucky to avoid just a slight brush of the barrier.
Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton also spun, at the conclusion of the practice, spinning around through the fast downhill corner before the final bend on to the pit straight.
Hamilton wrapped up in P19, one place behind teammate Charles Leclerc.
The McLaren pair were far ahead of the remaining drivers, with Nico Hulkenberg's Sauber third fastest, 0.619secs off Piastri's best.
The Aston Martin of Fernando Alonso was fourth quickest, with the Sauber of Gabriel Bortoleto ahead of Mercedes' George Russell and the Alpine of Gasly and the Williams of Carlos Sainz.
