Individuals of an Italy-based clan of thieves who took over £1.2 million valued of items, among them from former NUFC striker Alexander Isak, have been ordered to pay back just £1 per person.

Brothers Valentino Nikolov and Giacomo, their female sibling Jela and her child Charlie Jovanovic journeyed to the northeastern of the UK to raid multiple homes in April 2024.

The group of four were imprisoned for between a decade or less in 2025.

At a criminal assets hearing at the court, Jela and the Nikolov brothers were instructed to repay £1 each while Charlie Jovanovic must pay £1,135.

Details of the Break-ins

The judge previously heard the group came by boat in the UK on March 27, 2024 and employed a campervan as their "base of operations", which they stationed at a service area and Durham rest stops while using a separate vehicle to scout out properties and carry out thefts.

On March 31 they stole more than one million pounds of goods such as designer clothing, handbags, jewellery and a CBE medal from a house on a street in Jesmond, Newcastle, while the owners were away.

The next evening, the crew broke into a home on a gated cul-de-sac in Whitburn, and stole designer handbags, valuables and shoes valued at more than one hundred thousand pounds.

Following surveillance of the football club's facility for two days, they then acted at the home of Sweden striker Mr Isak in Darras Hall on April 4, taking ten thousand pounds in cash, sixty-eight thousand pounds worth of jewelry and the striker's £120,000 Audi RS6.

The gang, who were described by prosecutors as experienced itinerant burglars, used gloves and masks, switched their phones on silent as they neared their objectives and strapped a license plate, which had been stolen from a garage in a town, on to their vehicle with rubber straps.

They were arrested in the Birmingham area on April 13.

Legal Hearings and Rulings

Valentino had denied conspiracy to burglary but was found guilty by the court, while his family members had all submitted guilty pleas to the identical accusation.

At the criminal gains session, prosecutor the prosecution said each of the defendants had benefited from their crimes to the value of £1,266,285.93, which was based on what the affected parties said they had had stolen.

But Charlie was the only one deemed to have any funds that could be "realised", namely over a thousand pounds which had previously been confiscated by authorities, the judge was informed, with 14 days to be served in prison if he defaulted.

The remaining members had no assets or property so were ordered to pay a nominal fee of £1 per person, with one week in prison the result if the sum was not paid.

The judge Spragg said if they were discovered with property in the future, "for example operating Italy in a sports car or owning a home", the prosecution could initiate new proceedings to "satisfy the sum due".
