Democrats Condemn Trump After He Claims They Should Face Execution

Lawmakers from the Democratic party expressed anger after the ex-president accused a coalition of Democratic representatives of being "turncoats" and declared they should be taken into custody and sentenced "with execution" following their posting of a controversial video.

The Message That Triggered the Debate

The video footage, released on earlier this week, includes six Democratic lawmakers who previously acted in defense or intelligence capacities.

"Like us, you all made an pledge to defend and support this founding document," the lawmakers declared in the 90-second video. "And right now, the risks to our democratic foundation aren't just from overseas, but from within our own country. Our regulations are unambiguous, you can decline improper directives, you can refuse unlawful commands, you should refuse illegal orders. No one has to carry out orders that contravene the statutes or our founding principles."

The Former President's Angry Reply

The recorded statement appeared to trigger a angry reaction from the previous commander-in-chief.

On later in the week, Trump published on his social media platform: "This constitutes SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR AT THE HIGHEST LEVEL. Each one of these betrayers to our Country should be ARRESTED AND PUT ON TRIAL."

In another post, he stated: "This represents really serious, and Harmful to our United States. Their words cannot be permitted to remain. SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR FROM TRAITORS!!! LOCK THEM UP???"

In a additional post, he continued: "SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR, liable by DEATH!" He also redistributed a statement that said: "HANG THEM GEORGE WASHINGTON WOULD !!"

Democratic Leaders React

Following Trump's remarks on that day, Top Democrats published a unified statement censuring the statements.

"Violent politics has no role in this nation," they declared. "Representatives who appeared in the video all acted our United States with tremendous patriotism and excellence. We unequivocally denounce Donald Trump's disgusting and risky threats of violence against congressional representatives, and call on Republican lawmakers to forcefully do the same."

The opposition officials also mentioned that they had been in contact with protective services "to guarantee the protection of these representatives and their relatives."

"Donald Trump must without delay take down these extreme digital publications and withdraw his dangerous language before he leads to violence," the statement added.

Lawmakers' Defiant Reaction

The representatives who participated in the video also released a declaration.

"We identify as veterans and national security professionals who love this United States and took an vow to defend and defend the national charter of the United States," they declared. "Our pledge lasts a lifetime, and we plan to honor it. No threat, pressure, or incitement will deter us from that sacred obligation."

"The most revealing aspect is that the former president deems it liable to punishment by execution for us to reiterate the legal requirements," they added. "Armed forces members should understand that we have their protection as they fulfill their vow to the national charter and responsibility to follow only legal commands. It is not only the correct thing to do, but also our obligation."

They stated: "Every American must come together and condemn the ex-president's requests for our execution and partisan aggression. This is a moment for principled stance."

Additional Partisan Comments

The Senate Democratic leader also condemned Trump's comments and shared on digital platforms: "It's important to understand: the former president is calling for the death of elected officials."

He added: "This represents an outright THREAT. Each congressional member, every Representative, all citizens – irrespective of political affiliation – should censure this without delay and unconditionally."

The Republican House speaker defended Trump's claim that the Democrats had participated in "treason", characterizing the video as "wildly inappropriate", adding: "This constitutes very risky, you have prominent officials of the government advising troops to defy commands, I think that represents unprecedented in the nation's past."

The Republican leader also according to sources informed the press that in what he examined of Trump's publications, Trump was "defining the violation of rebellion" but that "lawyers have to examine the wording and determine all that."

White House Response

During a White House press conference on later that day, when inquired by a media member, "Does the president want to put to death members of Congress?", the administration spokesperson answered: "Certainly not."

"We should understand about what the president is responding to," the official stated. "You have active officials of the US Congress who conspired to organize a video message to individuals of the US military, to current military personnel encouraging them to disobey the commander in chief's proper directives."

She added: "The sanctity of our armed forces relies on the command structure, and if that structure is broken, it can lead to fatalities, it can result in disorder, and that's what these congressional representatives ... are fundamentally supporting."
