Fashion legend Antony Price, the groundbreaking British fashion designer who crafted many legendary styles associated with musical icons like Bowie and members of Roxy Music, as well as Queen Camilla, has passed away at 80 years old.

Price was best known for his architectural shapes and performative fashion, such as the pastel suits that appeared in rock band Duran Duran's landmark music video for "their hit Rio".

"In a tribute, they called him a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' Duran Duran shared a message across their platforms."

His passing follows shortly after he unveiled his newest line in London, which was his first major show in over 30 years. The performer Lily Allen showcased a dress that paid homage to the iconic black velvet "revenge dress" historically worn by Diana, Princess of Wales.

A Pioneering Career

A native of Yorkshire, born in 1945, Price moved to London in the early 1960s to attend the esteemed Royal College of Art.

A year after graduating, he started his work in men's fashion at the company Stirling Copper and was responsible for the body-hugging, buttoned trousers that rock legend Mick Jagger wore during The Rolling Stones' "Gimme Shelter" tour in the late sixties.

He established his eponymous line in 1979 and held his debut runway presentation a year later. The show opened with looks from supermodel Jerry Hall, who also wore the bridal gown Price designed for her for her nuptials with Sir Mick Jagger.

Collaborations with Icons

A key creative partner of the late David Bowie, Price was the mind behind the distinctive jacket the artist wore for his "the song As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His signature ability to blend tailoring for all genders along with his masterful technique in designing body-hugging looks cemented his status as a "true original," as stated by the British Fashion Council.

During the nineties, he commenced designing pieces for Camilla, now Queen Consort, including several ensembles for her tour of the United States after becoming Duchess.

After a career spanning over fifty years, Price presented his final runway show in London recently in collaboration with the fashion brand 16Arlington.

  • Sculpted Silhouettes: The core of his aesthetic.
  • Theatrical Flair: Influencing music videos and stagewear.
  • Genre-Blending Design: Creating a unique, androgynous style.
  • Working with Stars and Royalty: Including music legends and the future Queen Consort.

Design circles laments the passing to a genuine innovator whose legacy on style and culture remains profoundly felt.
